apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Just A Single Shot of Yellow
One Simple Idea

Color is a very effective design tool and bright yellow is one of the most powerful colors you can add to a room or exterior. It may be the emotional response that it seems to elicit - one of upbeat happiness, usually, something sunny and warm - or perhaps it is just the intensity...

...of the hue, but one thing is certain - even a single shot of it makes an impact and adding just a touch can wake up the whole room (or facade).

Take a look at these examples that prove the power of yellow and then look around your own room - could it use just a little squeeze of lemon?

Yellow is currently one of my favorite colors to work with, I love it paired with gray!

I love yellow as well.....my fav! I find that the right shade of yellow acts as a neutral and then you can bring in virtually any other color. My favorite combination right now is soft yellow walls, with chartruese/brown/pink accents

like the room in the first picture a lot. i haven't been voting on the rooms with color because i haven't really liked any that much... guess i'm a lots of white with pops of color kind of person.
too much color is disorienting, or dampens my mood, or seems like the person's trying too hard to get a reaction or something...
hmm, there's my some thoughts poured over a keyboard.
to sum up, i'm a fan of the yellow door

Anyone know where that dining table in the first picture is from?

I love the light fixture in #1. Reminds me of street lights they used to have in downtown St. Paul.
