A while ago, we wrote about the popularity of white kitchens in an economic climate that favors the basics and eschews expensive trends. If you like the simplicity that white affords, but you feel like it's a little too sterile, accessories are an affordable way to add color without overhauling your space...
This photo from Living Etc shows how just a few pieces in Mimosa (this year's hot color according to Pantone) can add some spark to an otherwise simple room. For a bold, bright look it helps to keep accessories (including dishes, tea towels, and storage pieces) in the same color family.

The yellow and white combination for a kitchen is really clean. I also like that the yellow is an accent color. I would like to see the rest of that chandelier!

I put a white kitchen in my home 10 years ago and it still looks new. White cabinets, white corian and stainless steel appliances leave a lot of room for color. Plus I installed some glass front cabinets so everyone can see my colorful china and cookbooks!

White accent also makes it easy to dramatically make over your kitchen without much effort. I used to have white and with that pretty 50's aqua blue. Now I've got white and pear green.
