Bright Blue Sofa at the Kitchen Table

0227_yetman2.jpg

We know, we know. You told us the last time we pitched this. Sofa heights and their stain-vulnerable upholstery often make them unsuitable as seating at dining tables. Yet we can't shake our admiration for this taboo arrangement...

We're going to go ahead and trust designer Scott Yetman enough to cut loose and really love this one. Even in such a highly formal house, we love this casual seating option at the kitchen table.

This smart blue sofa (in scrub-able looking upholstery!) with the warm whites of the rest of the room just looks so fresh and inviting. Photo: Brian Park

I think this is very inviting and pretty. The blue works so well! And in that fabric it even looks cleanable which would be better for kitchen spills.

Beautiful! It is not really in the kitchen, so with reasonable eating manners, there should be no problem.

Looks more like a bench than a sofa. Since restaurant designers specify banquettes all the time there are many soil/stain resistant fabrics out there.
Crypton
Nano-Tex finish
Faux leather
Sunbrella, etc.

I think it looks great - and what a comfy place to sit and hang out after supper!

leather, slipcovers or a bench would all work well...

don't agree with the negative comments on the earlier post

Why not? Everyone eats on their sofa anyway.

It's not a "sinking-in" sofa, nor does it have cushions that lift up and can harbor all manner of old food between them. So I don't think it's part of the taboo. It is beautiful, though!

I got a faux leather armless loveseat at Overstock.com and use it the same way. It really is great for my husband and I to sit next to each other while we each are on our own laptop. Really comfy and functional. Ballard Designs has a great slipcovered version of a booth seating option. You can choose your own fabric or use one of theirs. It is pretty reasonable too.

I think it looks great. I love the blue color, it's so bright and vivid. I wish I had the space in my apartment to do something like this.
