Red and green reads like Christmas in print, but in person there is nothing about our kitchen's green walls and red and green accents that looks like Christmas. The combination was not pre-meditated; we picked a green paint quickly, didn't fall in love with it, and then proceeded to fill the room with the red things we already owned and a few more we picked up along the way. The red accents have actually helped us to enjoy the imperfect green choice a bit more...

Green and Red kitchens remind me of Salsa and the Mexican flag...
My Green and Pink (the pink sofa was supposed to be red - but it didn't turn out that way...) den remind me of Palm Beach.

I also have a green kitchen that didn't quite turn out the shade that I had anticipated. I should have gone with my gut and used a pale blue instead of pale mint to compliment my red accents.
One very useful thing I learned from my color theory classes in art school is that colors are generally most attractive with a hue that falls beside their complimentary on the color wheel.
When I put up a predominently orange painting, that mint green was transformed into something MUCH more tolerable/attractive than with the red!
