Living in the city, we can only dream of the space a farmhouse kitchen affords, but there are a few details that can translate into any home, no matter how small. Wood is the defining material of a farmhouse kitchen, complemented by metal drawer pulls, ceramic sinks, and the occasional industrial-style light fixture. Kitchen arrangements are utilitarian and easily accessible, from open shelving to wall-mounted pot racks. And don't forget the super-cheap but charming touch of a Mason jar filled with preserves or flowers.

If I had a kitchen just to look at, and maybe drink coffee and munch a muffin in the morning - I'd go for farmhouse in a heartbeat. But I can't imagine actually cooking in one or keeping it clean. How often do you have to wash all those jars?

Dreamy. Love the cubbies in photo # 4, and the back staircase.

Is that a two-door Smeg in #5? They come with two doors? God. Mind strong, wallet weak....

love the first room esp. the cabinets..

I don't understand the appeal of apron front "farmhouse" sinks. I think I'd prefer a nice wide border around the sink, as in photo #9. Otherwise, instead of wiping down splashes on the countertop, I'm going to be wiping up the floor.

I love every single one of these. The cubbies are great, but probably a nightmare to dust and keep clean?

The simplicity of the kitchen with the marble drain board, the white cabinets and footed stainless oven is so calming. And the triangle set-up between the stove and sink look very efficient. This is definitely my favorite.
Cheers!

Sigh. Oh, to have a big, farmhouse kitchen--it would be so wonderful. Someplace to sit and eat, an honest to god pantry, enough storage space for all my cooking/baking/canning equipment. And I LOVE the apron sinks. Functionality or no, they scream the kind of vintage feel I love in a kitchen (ok, the whole house, really). And the fridges? love.

These just don't seem all that "farm" to me; where are the large work areas and labor saving appliances? Not to mention space for butchering (I've lived in rural areas, I've seen what goes on *grin* - we had a gun rack which was actually used for that)? They are just too cute, studied and urban - as well as tidy and clean.
