Last time we posted French retailer FLY, we got some comments about poor quality. We've never bought anything from them personally, but we do think that their catalog offers inspiration that's a little more bright and colorful than other retailers. Although these kitchens may or may not be cheap in person, we like looking at the photos simply for ideas...
• 1 One bright orange cabinet gives this playful kitchen a sense of humor.
• 2 Green cabinets match the enamel lampshades hanging from the ceiling.
• 3 Brightly colored cubbies create out-of-the-ordinary storage for utensils and dishes.
• 4 A rose-colored accent wall highlights a sculptural sign above the sink.
• 5 This standard apartment kitchen perks up with a little orange and gray paint.

i have a really neat udden system kitchen from ikea but i would have chosen this fly kitchen instead, its look is a little more sophisticated

Pretty soon, you might be able to do this with ikea kitchen cabs, given that they seem to keep expanding their selection of glossy colored door fronts.

Super-cute. But I have a question (a "Good Question," maybe?)--how do people feel about cabinets that are on legs instead of going all the way to the floor? I love the look but I wonder how much of a pain it would be to chase chickpeas and cherry tomatoes underneath them when they roll away.

sarah: we have them and like them quite a lot (cabinets on legs). the roomba scoots right under there. i'd prefer to have access to an area to be able to clean it than have a mystery spot for hairballs. and vegout is right... with ikea's expansion of their rubrik and applad doors, it wouldn't be a hard look to replicate stateside.

Thanks so much for the tip! Guess now I need a Roomba...

Well, when you live in France, you quickly learn that while Fly is indeed colorful (and beyond the quality concerns already raised), they're not actually that original. My previous landlords installed a nearly-identical green kitchen from Fly six years ago, two years before I took this photo of it:

Their designs hardly change (*much* less than Ikea's).
