We love an evening at home with a good bottle of wine. And so, we have been doing a bit of digging to find the most fantastic wine shops in Chicago. Kafka is one. With over 250 wines under $15, the shop offers pairing suggestions (for cooking at home or taking to nearby Lakeview restaurants) and tasting events. Most impressively, owners Michael Scharber and Joe Kafka have created a welcoming, fun, and successful shop (embarking on its third year anniversary) all without any advertising. Kafka tasting events to look for this month:

Friday 10/6: Wines from Argentina, 7-9 pm, $10

Saturday 10/21: Architectural boat tour and wine tasting, 3:30 pm, $50

Saturday-Tuesday 10/28-10/31: Halloween Spooktacular / 3rd Anniversary Celebration at the shop

I have gone to the 1st Friday Wine Tastings at Kafka in the past. It seems that they have gotten super popular the last two months. Make sure that you call more than a week advance to go to them.

I LOVE KAFKA! The guys are super friendly and knowledgeable; they have helped me look like a wine pairing pro several times while entertaining friends at home. I highly recommend Kafka!
