That little piece of IKEA's Knappa Lamp looks friendly enough, right? On our recent move to Montreal, we arrived with the lamp - in 54 little pieces - thrown in a bag. Without assembly instructions. We remembered how tough it was assembling the Knappa the first time around and were not, years later, looking forward to reassembly...
However, we found out this time around that putting the Knappa together is much simpler without IKEA's notoriously confusing assembly instructions. That's the lamp below, fully assembled, sitting on the dining table. Whew!

Now, we just need to hang it. Design Boner actually provides terrific assembly instructions via step-by-step photos here.

I don't envy your having to assemble the lamp but I do envy your move to Montreal. My husband and I just returned from a fabulous five-day getaway there. By Day 3, we were saying to one another: Wouldn't it be cool to live here?

IKEA has all instructions available on their website. Recently I went through all my instructions book in file and found PDf's for almost everything online, some items many years old. I threw out anything that I would not need a hard copy for and saved lots of file space.

Speaking of the Knappa...Has anyone ever hardwired the Knappa? I want to put one in my bedroom where I have a can light, but I'd love to know if anyone else has tried it, and also what kind of cap to use over the old can light hole!

I'm glad to hear that, funstraw, because three years ago my boyfriend and I were trying to reassemble my IKEA bed in our spare bedroom. We couldn't get it to work right, so I called the store ... and they said, "We don't carry that bed any more, so you're your own." Big way for them to build customer loyalty, eh? Apparently they've seen the error of their ways.

You can always Google "instructions Knappa" and find the assembly info for pretty much any IKEA product. :-)
