Bargain Hunter: Under $15 - Fado Table Lamp

fadolamp071608.JPGGood design for not much more than the price of a movie ticket - that is hard to beat. We've been fans (and owners) of this sized-just-right table lamp for ages. It is the...

...Fado Lamp from Ikea and sells for just $14.99. We currently have two - one in the bedroom (shown in the photos here) and one on a side table in the living room.

The look is a little minimal, a touch space age and plenty mod. They have a nice quality of glow-y light through the opaque glass - we use ours with a dimmer and especially like the way they work on a low setting, although when cranked up to see our knitting mistakes, they are not a half bad task light.

Anyone else a Fado fan?

Where can I get the white unit you have in the picture?

I purchased one for my daughters bedroom a little over a year ago. We loved it immediately when we spotted it in the store. About two months ago I scored 2 more in the "AS IS" section at $5. each. I now have one on the floor in my bedroom and the other in the living room. Great idea to use them with a dimmer...I'll try that for my bedroom.

I love the FADO! I have the table version in my dining room, and two of the pendants in my living room and front hall.

Seema, the white cabinet in the photo is the TORSBY, also from IKEA.

@costa: All you need to do is buy a dimming switch or cord. Ikea ofcourse sells these: DIMMA, but you can find them in the lighting section of your local hardware store.

Yup, my Fado is in the "book nook" in my living room. A great bargain find!

I have one as well, and love it. I use it as an accent piece. At first, I made the mistake of putting in a 60-watt bulb, and the thing blinded like a giant naked bulb. 30-watts or less makes it look ethereal.

Does it take CFL bulbs? Has anyone tried using dimmable CFL bulbs with it?

The make CFLs in all sorts of sizes. Ikea has them in the smaller socket size. So you should have no problem finding a CFL bulb for it. That being said, you'll have to look long and hard for CFL that's dimmable, and even if you do find one, its likely to be more expensive than the lamp!
