Chandeliers with Shades

We recently spotted this shaded chandelier in the Somerset show home from Detroit Home magazine. Which led us to a few more similar designs...

Chandeliers with drum shades are sprouting up all over the place, but we're still digesting the look. It seems a little redundant - a bit like wearing a skirt with pants. Have you seen the pairing before and what do you think of it?

I have been coveting this type of light fixture for several months now. I may take the plunge at the end of the year.

lots of people wear skirts with leggings :)

i actually like these...the last two especially look intentionally put together that way, not like you just threw a skirt on over your normal jeans. :) I guess shape and scale are key. Love the idea though!

I put a drum shade on the chandelier in my living room, which I will eventually replace. The chandelier is an ugly 1950's black, "Ponderosa," type things that I took the bronze glass hurricane shades off, then covered the whole thing with the shade. Looks much better now.

I like the idea - but it's become a little bit too trendy.

I can understand using a shade to disguise an ugly chandelier, but in the some of the examples I'd rather be able to see the pretty crystals and sweeping curves, rather than having them be hidden by the shade.

Love this look! I like electric chandeliers except for the lightbulbs and those little shades always end up crooked. This is a nice, modern solution. Too bad they no longer sell the Delia's fixture. The Horschow collection has several options in a range of prices. Thanks!

I've seen it done beautifully with sheer, chiffon shades over crystal chandeliers (say THAT 5 times fast). www.mourastarr.com is one company that does it.

I wear skirts and dresses with my jeans. Just sayin'.

I kind of like this, but I agree with some of the above posters: I'd rather see the beautiful crystals and curves without the shade.

I really like the delia one, I've actually been eyeballing a similar style lamp for a while, however the chandelier is a lot nicer. If only they were still available
