Koskinen Lanterns

2007-03-13-lantern.jpg
Lovely lanterns. These simple glass candle holders were designed by Harri Koskinen. Koskinen was named Young Designer of the Year in Finland in 2000. His design, made by iittala, is available in clear, brown, blueberry, and moss green. We love how the votive is held suspended above the table; it must create a nice area of light on a dining table.

It is also available in a large size, to accommodate tapers rather than votives. The large holder comes in clear, grey and an opaque white as well , creating a totally different, diffused presentation of light from the indentical form.

Various colors, sizes and prices can be found at scandanavian details, finn style and nova 68.

Call me cynical but they look suspiciously like something I had in the 70's which (if memory serves me) was called an "Uncandle".

Hi Harold- I just took a look at the Uncandle. There's one for sale at ebay and another at antiqnet.com. I think the comparison of the two designs is quite a stretch. Take a look at the pix again and let me know what you think. Ben
