Maplemap Hanging Lamp at The Souvenir Shop

This design is somehow akin to the antler trend without being antlers, which is frankly a welcome breath of fresh air. The Maplemap Hanging Lamp is a sphere made up of lots and lots of paper maple leaves...

It's the beautiful product of collaboration between Montreal designers Ani+Lumigrane, paper-maker Frederic Guibrunet, and Parisian origami expert Didier Boursin. Available at The Souvenir Shop, at $250 each, from a limited edition of 100 lamps.

I live in a neighborhood full of Canadiana souvenirs, so maple-leaf anything makes me recoil (unless said item contains maple candies -- I make an exception for that).

My husband grew up in central New York, and maple stuff is big up there - especially come state fair time! He'd probably love this lamp.

I'm a Canadian living in the southern US for the past 10 yrs and this thing is really quite sweet, but I laughed my head off. I'm sure they will be selling these at border-crossings everywhere up north. Oh, we are such a proud people, LOL.
