Marine Modernism

Okay, so we're on a nautical kick today (we just can't stop dreaming about the beach with the gray sky outside hanging over our head). The Eclipse Lamp from Design Within Reach ($98) is one of our favorite contemporary interpretations of the classic nautilus shape. Click below for some more marine modernism...

We saw this rug in the most recent issue of Coastal Living. "The Deep" 8 x 10 Rug, recently reissued by Edward Fields, costs a whopping $8,690. It's a beautiful rug, but "The Deep" definitely requires deep pockets! (Fields was the designer for Princess Grace, and his "fine art" rugs are at the very top of high-end.)

The Offi Arp Stool ($229 at Design Public) reminds us of cresting waves, especially when they're lined up together in a row. There's also something about molded plywood (maybe its waxy surfboard-esque surface) that fits in well with casual, beachy decor.

Speaking of the Eclipse Lamp. I have one that I am trying to sell if anyone is interested. I am in Chicago - I am asking $85 or best offer. Email me with any questions. I still have the box.

I just bought an Eclipse lamp from DWR and I LOVE it. At first I was unsure about the white plastic -- I worried it would look junky. But when the light's turned on, it casts an amazing light.
