Roy's is a 30-year old Chicago institution. With no web presence or big ad campaigns, Roy's has relied on solid word-of-mouth, good products, and excellent pricing.

Since there is no storage warehouse on site, Roy's keeps its own costs low, which then reflects in the prices. Roy's acquires everything on an order-by-order basis direct from the factories in furniture-mecca North Carolina. We spent an hour at Roy's yesterday, snapping photos, finding some must-haves, and gasping at the discounted prices (like the $2995 leather sofa going for $1599).

The most refreshing thing about Roy's is that it doesn't sell you a lifestyle (a la Crate & Barrel, no disrespect) or the style of the moment. The variety is astounding, and that means sifting through all of the pieces that you hate (that someone else might love), and forming your own individual look.

Since all goods must be ordered especially for you, it takes approximately 6-8 weeks. Delivery charges fluctuate, depending on the cost/size of your piece, but a salesperson (everyone there was beyond helpful and kind) told us to expect an average of $60 for a standard sofa.

Oh wow! I've never heard of this place. I'm going to have to go check it out now. Thanks for the tip.

Roy's rocks! I was at my wit's end when we were looking to furnish our new place, then we went to Roy's. It is a revelation. They have top-notch products to suit every space and sensibility, and the prices are beyond belief. We almost bought a couch at Crate & Barrel... for the same price at Roy's we got a NC manufactured sleeper sectional, coffee table and a leather chair. Crazy good. Some people grouse about the delivery time, but it is well worth the wait.

I love Roy's. I've bought all my mattresses there since I've moved to Chicago. I recently bought a gorgeous couch there for under $600. I was nervous about the quality, but I've been really pleased. I mean, those are Ikea prices, and everyone assumes I got it from C&B.

After months of lurking, I've been motivated to post. I. LOVE. ROY'S. Seriously. About 6 or 7 years ago, I started stalking a bed that I saw in a now closed one-stop homegoods store--it was like a higher-end Linens and Things located in Old Orchard--but with my wedding coming up, I couldn't afford the $900 price tag. When I finally decided to buy the bed, the store had just stopped selling beds--the first sign of the end of this store--but they gave me the manufacturer and model info. Thus began the search for the bed. I saw it a few months later on the floor of a Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but they don't sell beds (ironic, huh). I found it on the net for $600 and was getting ready to order it when I went to Roy's upon a friend's recommendation. I went in for a sofa and chair and then, there it was: MY BED, waiting for me on the 2nd floor. I got my bed (from which I am composing this email) including tax, delivery, and set-up, for less than $500. Roy's Rocks.

I can't praise Roy's enough, after lusting after the leather "poets chair" at C&B for over a year, and not being able to justify the price, a friend suggested Roy's, lo and bohold there it was, in purple! My heart sank, then the salesperson showed me the endless color selections and we were able to find the perfect burnt orange just like the coveted "poets chair"at C&B only 500.00 cheaper!
