Colorful idea: Funky floral fridge in the new Domino

10-23-dominofridge.jpgThe new issue of Domino has lots of color, lots of glitz (its very fancy this time around) and one really cute refrigerator.

Nick Olsen, assistant to decorator Miles Redd decked out his tiny NYC apartment with parsley green walls (really nice), a royal blue velvet sofa, a zebra rug and this wallpapered floral fridge.
Now we know it seems impractical - how do you clean it? (maybe it's vinyl wall paper...) But it's just such a triumph over the icky white box stuck in the middle of the cute studio apartment that we love it.

10-23-domino.jpg We really liked the photo of a basic parsons table from CB2 that Olsen also wallpapered. He used a grass cloth which he applied with construction adhesive. It looks really luxe...a great idea.

Domino, November 2006 issue, is on newstands now.

Kate,

I have those two issues too!

I loved that mag, it was really the first cool shelter magazine. The interiors were so funky and unique. Every year I go through my magazines and throw some away. I have never thought of throwing those out, there are too many cool things in them.

It was a Better Homes & Gardens publication and every once in a while images from those issues show up in their other decor magazines and books. That's how good it was.

Can’t wait to get this month's issue - it looks like a good one. I have a subscription to Domino but I my issue always seems to arrive at least a week after it hits the newstand. Does this happen to anyone else?

I always get mine a week or two after too!

I subscribe to Dwell and I got November's issue today. Loved that apartment, so unique. I'm looking at my fridge and wondering what color it will be soon... ;-)

If you live in NYC or LA or other major city, you'll more often than not find all magazines on the newsstand before you get them in the mailbox. That's just the way the publishing industry does it. They put them out in the big cities on newsstands first to generate buzz and excitement.

I have a subscription to Domino but end up buying it on the Newstands because I see the often enticing cover and cannot wait. I too get it a week or so after its on the newstand. My best friend now benefits from my subscription copy.

I wish there was more mags like Domino. It seems to get to the heart of what I want in a decor type mag.

A few years ago there was a magazine that tried a few test issues called LivingRoom and I loved it and still have the 2 issues for reference. It was similar in style and actually the editor was Domino's Creative Director Sara Ruffin Costello. Does anyone remember this magazine too?

I saw that fridge in the mag and was intrigued, but I'm wondering if the wallpaper is removable? I rent. I can't find any info online anywhere about wallpapering fridges.

Hey Lisa- yes I have seen those images many times used over in various magazines. It's like well if these photo spreads were good then why was this magazine's success not long lived? Oh well Better Homes and Gardens let go of a great concept :(

I have to admit that a "floral" fridge is an interesting idea specially if you want to fit it in a specific decor. It would be even more interesting for us to have the possibility to choose for a certain colors or forms. It's time for appliance parts to change their 'standardized' physical aspect.
