With our Fall Colors Contest kicking off today, we thought today might be a good time to share this home in Burlington, Vermont. Having the most colorful home means inside and out right? Click through the jump for more thoughts on this spotted residence...
The good news is this paint job has been done well. Painting spots on your house is no easy task, especially with siding. The bad news is... wow. Just wow.
Would you ever be so bold as to get busy with a paint brush and polka dot your house? Or should color be left to the inside only?

If you have a great photo you'd like us to see, don't forget to tag it with "apartmenttherapychicago" on Flickr.
My first thought was, "That's GOTTA be in Vermont."

Only one wall...not even a whole side? Ugh.
Also, it looks like the house has some kind of weird cartoony disease. :P
I'm all for bright colors on the outside of a house. But stick to one color and a neutral trim, please!

it would be super cute if that alcove was done up. I'd be considerate enough to make the back of my house that way.. A way to personalize your house without offending the delicate sensibilities of your neighbors

I love this :D Although I would've done the alcove thingy to, or at least made that purple. it sticks out now, in more ways than the obvious :)

This house is real. I saw it on a visit earlier this year to VT and definitely remembered it!

This is one homeowner who doesn't care about resale value...

There's a house even bolder than this in Chesterton.

Reminds me of the scene in Sword and the Store where the two wizards are dueling and Madam Mimm turns the old guy into a dragon: purple with pink spots!

Painting polka dots on the exterior is all fine and good but paint the entire house, clean up the grounds and landscape, for pete's sake.

That's just wrong.

While on the surface it may appear to be a deco choice, sometimes painting houses wild colors is the greatest form of civil disobedience. I remember hearing a story about a guy who painted his house in some offensive pattern after a dispute with his neighbors about where he could park his RV in the off-season (he lost). Searching for that story, I found this:

It'd be interesting to know the stories behind these extreme paint choices. Anyone ever go knock on the door?

I love unusual houses and wouldn't mind if my neighbors did a *good* paint job that was unusual. If I ever go ahead and paint my vinyl siding, I'll have to strongly restrain myself not to paint the house a soft rose pink with white trim. What the heck, maybe I'll go ahead and do it. I'd love to do a matching roof when it comes time to replace that, too!

This house is real and it's been this way for years. So no, it's not photoshopped and considering how long it's been this way I doubt it's a comment on the ailing housing market. Also, we have this season in Burlington that we call "Spring," and sadly at that time of year our grass is brown, our plantings haven't come in yet, and we're just barely starting to do yard work after a long hibernation.

Agree, Mr. Bubbles house.
(Of course, I know him.)

I'm reminded of a story a friend told me about a fellow who painted his house with leftover paint (he'd gotten it from work). It was black and orange and called the "halloween house" locally. Problem was, it was anti-graffiti paint, and whenever it was repainted and it rained, the new paint would wash off....
