We just got back from a family reunion in Tennessee's Smokey Mountains, and the trip would not have been complete without a stop at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. We heard a rumor that we had missed Dolly by two days. Without her, we passed on the shows and instead enjoyed a funnel cake and some old-fashioned candle making.

Welcome back Heather!
I love that place! Did you go to Gatlenburg too?
shannon,
we did go to gatlinburg, too...loved all the small hotel balconies looking over the rocky river. and even ventured further east into asheville, NC, where we saw the biltmore estate. look for posts on that later this week!
And on a completely unrelated note, just a brief moment of appreciation from one editor to another. It's so refreshing to see "re-create" and not "recreate." Thanks for a good read and welcome back!
I love Dollywood! Do they still play "Rocky Top, TN" in 50 different musical styles? Though my memory is a little hazy, I could swear that I heard a calypso version when I was last there.
keeeks,
if i missed "Rocky Top, TN" in 50 styles, i will forever live with regret! i didn't hear it anywhere but i'm going to ask the fam and see if someone else did. thanks!
Heather - Wow that must have been fun - the mountains there are beautiful. My uncle has a summer home near Asheville and they just took the grandkids to Dollywood - so funny you posted this because I was just talking to them about Dollywood last week (I've never been) because I didn't know exactly what it was. I had heard about it when it first opened years ago, but I didn't even know it was still around.
Dolly Parton is the cutest thing ever. When Isaac Mizrahi interviewed her on his show, I was dying - it was the cutest moment, he was soooo gushing over her, too. I could tell he was so fascinated by her.
My favorite Dolly quote, heard spoken directly from her on talk show years ago (it always stuck with me), "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap!". I love how grounded she is.
I'm glad you had a great time!!!
Holly
you missed the shows? one of my good friends is working in the children's show this year. he got to meet dolly last week when she was in town. then he was on access hollywood all about her new imagination library. it's so hokey, but still so good...
Dolly rocks
There is a bronze statue of Dolly in front of the Sevier County Court House just up the road from Dollywood.
My favorite Dolly story was during a Carson interview when Johnny asked "How long does it take to do your hair every morning?" and Dolly answered, "How would I know?".
Lucky you! I'm so envious. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I have this dazzling, childhood memory of Dolly (on her TV show) making her grand entrance on a swing, singing "Love is Like a Butterfly." What lil' sparkle bug wouldn't love that?
As far as I can remember from reading her biography I think the vast majority of her siblings did all live there at the same time!!
I'm so jealous. I can't wait to go to Dollywood! I recently moved to Nashville, but I haven't been yet. Dolly is just fabulous.
