Look!: A Shorty Stump Fence

20080701stump1.jpgWe spotted this adorable stump fence while out taking advantage of the recent Chicago weather. It's an earthy change of pace from the standard KEEP OFF THE GRASS posts and drooping chains.

But does it work as well...?

20080701stump2.jpgProbably not. At its highest point, this stumpy fence stands only about seven inches tall. Most every person or dog could easily scale it to romp freely in the parkway.

Yet we still like it because it's both messy and orderly. The placement of the stumps isn't perfect but the haphazard angles fit right in with the overgrown plant life.

In the very least, it provides a visual border (or barricade) which, because it's so pretty, we graciously honored.

I think this qualifies more as a curb or edging to keep the grass in and neat, although this one looks a bit over grown.

those look like the premade sections of edging i saw at home depot yesterday... i can't find it on their website, but similar to this: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100631148&N=10000003 90401

..only not bamboo, and with stakes in the bottom... no digging required. which seems like a nice option for an apartment-dweller... you can snatch it up and take it with you!

Bamboo and I saw an example of this product on an evening walk in the neighborhood... The "fence" we saw needed a little upkeep, but we could see the potential... Much better than some other options...
