A well coordinated splash of blue can completely enliven a room -- especially if the effect is subtly carried across a few elements. The right tones of blue can generate a calming and tranquil atmosphere that puts occupants at peace with a quiet welcome.

We love the collection of blue pottery and vases shown in this Better Homes & Gardens beach house tour. The white of frame behind them and the deep wood of the radio just make the vases appear so vibrant.
AT Flickr Find veteran cupcakepants' strategically placed blue box on top of her fabulous dresser adds a great element to the room -- something unexpected, yet completely right.
Supershoppertoo seems to agree with us on the merits of the color blue; their office shelf is resplendant with the wonderful hue.
Finally, a vintage Zenith radio is a fabulous item in and of itself but in robin's egg blue, it takes on a life all its own.

I do love the light blue motif...but I have always been a bit puzzled by the whole "shell on a stick" decoration (see first photo). What's the point?

I think the shell-on-a-stick is a small desk lamp.

Love the map. Wonderful color.
I'm thinking of painting my coffee table that shade blue. It's a boring brown Queen Anne square table with a glass top. (Not valuable, it's Bassett or something.)

Closertotheocean, according to Cupcakepants' Flickr site:
"craigslist! It's mid-century, repainted at the white attic (www.whiteattic.com) and sold six months later when its original owner moved to a new condo."
