Over the weekend, we went to an art show in an unlikely place: a one-bedroom apartment. Bill Gross is the mind behind 65 Grand, a West Town living space that features rotating shows. When he hosts an exhibition, Bill moves everything out of the kitchen and front room and hides it behind a wall, transforming his home into a blank canvas for emerging artists...
In the kitchen, a temporary countertop covers the stove and creates a surface for postcards and takeaway materials. Painted slate blue floors contrast with white walls, creating a clean backdrop for artworks. Although small, the apartment is a welcoming space that provides a nice counterpoint to traditional art galleries and gives artists a chance to exhibit their works in an unconventional environment.

I went to something like this in brooklyn, although the space would also rotate. So, my understanding was that it was something like rotating curators with rotating artists in rotating apartment galleries. It was really well done, and a nice alternative to the mainstream gallery scene.

I suggest going to the Pilsen East Artist Open House for more of unusual artist loft/gallery spaces.
