While cruising the summer sales at World Market, we came across the wide legged Hako tables. We had seen them online with the other new furniture/decor items released a few weeks ago.... but hadn't seen them in person yet. Jump through for our thoughts on them, as well as another photo.
These Hako Occasional Tables had caught our eye while cruising online, although we thought they were something we were going to need to see in person. Once tracked down, they felt a bit like silly putty. Not because they are packaged in a sweet plastic egg and you can make stamps of newsprint paper (if only to be 6yrs old again), but when we created our silly putty masterpieces and then let them sit for a few minutes, they sank a bit. The feet of these tables feel a bit "puddled." Maybe flared is a better word... like bell bottoms.
We can see how in the right space they would be a great match, although the largest pieces comes in at under 4 feet. They would need to be balanced in a room with other pieces since they feel a bit heavy on the floor.

I'm not a big fan, either. I don't really get what kind of aesthetic they're going for? Asian-inspired? It does feel a bit "messy".
By any chance, was small storage on sale there? I need to get some good baskets...

This looks like the kind of chinese/japanese inspired furniture sold here in large mass-produced furniture stores.

Color me baffled - I'm not making the connection between the ramble about silly putty, plastic eggs and wooden tables.
Perhaps if we were told how difficult/easy these were to assemble or how solid they felt, that would be more useful?

nope. clunky, far from graceful.

Every time I go into one of their stores I get a royal headache. Might be all the off gassing happening or I am overwhelmed by the junk.

I've had the Hako coffee table for 5 years. I was going through my mission phase when I first got it. It's a very large, heavy piece of furniture but it really well made.
All furniture from World Market is an incredible deal - it's all REAL wood and very good quality.
I'm over the coffee table now that I've gone midcentury.

i have these tables and LOVE them. i don't love cost plus usually but these were a great deal for real wood and they've stood the test of time - 7 years!

i guess they would work in an asian styled room... room and board has a set of tables just like these (called shinto) and says theyre modeled after classis asian furniture design.
not really my taste though.

not a fan. They just look....I don't know, maybe I'm just more in favor of cleaner lines?

They seem "cartoon-Asian", rather than authentic.

I think they would be quite attractive without the bottom shelf.
