While browsing at Borders (and hoping to get a peek at the new AT book), we came across this colorful display of photo frames. All the fun patterns (florals and stripes and damask - oh my!) really liven up these often-overlooked accessories.
We're especially fond of the kitschy ornateness at play here so jump down for a closer-up of our favorite...
We love the hot pink "carved" circular frame. Not only is the color over the top but the garlands of roses, vines, and cherubs are just as fabulously ridiculous. This frame would add an instant flash of color (and a spark of humor) to an understated and serious room. Now the only problem is figuring out whose lovely face deserves such a fancy display.
We snapped this photo just as Borders (at North Ave and Halsted) put up the display so the prices weren't yet listed but we'd like to think they're all easily affordable and the very definition of "impulse buy."
The Borders on Michigan Ave have had these for a while - I believe the frames are around 15-20$ each. I love the little jeweled frames they have that are perfect for office desks!

Looks like the damask trend is alive and well.

Ouch.

I think they're fab! The one in New York (Columbus Circle) also had mirrors for ~$20.

I just found a similar ornate plastic framed mirror in gold at the thrift store for $1 and painted it hot pink for my bathroom. I think the DIY version offers more satisfaction (something soothing about painting)!

That striped one may have to find it's way to my desk at work...
