Look!: Discount Store Find

While out at a local salvage store in Kansas City, we came across these. Not being 100% sure what they are, they intrigued us. They sat tucked away with the "manly tool and construction materials" section of the store. See what we think they should be after the jump....

A table base! They would need to be anchored by bolts at the bottom, maybe to some decking or large concrete form. However, with the addition of any type of table top, they would make a killer patio table in your outdoor space. That isn't to say that their industrial feel wouldn't work well inside either. Use just one and make a small cozy place for a few friends to eat, or buy two and make a longer table with a small footprint on the floor (assuming you can anchor them).
Maybe this is what these forms are for in the first place, but either way, we think they would be a great find! Don't forget to look at things in a different light while out treasure hunting.

They look like they might be bases for drafting tables. Does the top tilt?

looks like they are sitting next to some generators. considering how small the base is, i'd be scared to use it as a table unless you bolted it to the floor.

It is a bench grinder pedestal. If you can't bolt it to the floor you could always bolt it to a wider base.

as a mechanical drafty... gunna throw a big no no no out to the drafting desk idea.

as partner of a sheet metal worker tradey / boiler maker tradey / DIY fanatic... gunna throw a big yes yes yes out to the grinder & drill press ideas... we have two in our shed :P

100% good idea about making an outdoor table though, if you want to bolt them to your floor...

dowjones: They are located at Rick's Picks on 40hwy and Noland in Independence (although technically it's within the KC limits).

They look to me like bases for bar tables. The ones I've seen have small table tops and are usually bolted to the floor. I saw a couple at an auction last month.
I can't tell from the photo - how tall are they?
