This mobile is made of scraps of art paper at the DeSerres art supply store in Place Montreal Trust. It's absolutely striking, and a lot of visual bang for your buck.

Located in the art paper section of the DeSerres in Place Montreal Trust, the mobile is an explosion of dowels with trails of paper squares dangling down in blue and golden hues. If we had a large space we wanted to fill with visual interest, we'd definitely start now on working out a similar DIY project.
Below is some more lighting from the shop, with brush strokes on back lit plexiglass.
I swear I've seen a light like this. Can someone else remember what its called?

The idea is "borrowed" from Ingo Maurers "Zettel'z" lamp, IMO. Google will instantly turn up pictures of this and other of Maurers brilliant, funny, amazing and somewhat expensive creations. My personal favorite is "porca miseria" (see e.g. http://www.bookofjoe.com/2007/11/the-origin-of-i.html ). Sadly, none has turned up on craigslist yet :-(
A lot of Maurer's lamps invite DIY copies, but it just doesn't feel quite right. His lamps are really about the clever ideas and imagination, and copying them feels like plagiarism. It's tempting to say "I could have thought of that", but fact is he did and I didn't and somehow that should be respected.
Sorry for rambling.

That Omer Deserres often has some pretty interesting things going on. I spend more time at the mini-one at Concordia, but it's tiny and not nearly as interesting.
