Look!: DIY Stained Glass Room Divider

At Diane's house in Rochester last week, we got a lot of inspiration from her endless DIY projects: a shed full of old chairs waiting for reupholstering, picture frames waiting for paint jobs, and a basement full of secondhand finds and furniture-building projects. Sometimes she sells the stuff, other times she lives with it.

We thought this stained glass room divider was a great alternative to the standard room dividers that sit on the floor. By connecting found antique windows to each other to create an almost-solid sheet of framed glass, Diane then hung them from the ceiling, saving space and allowing light to travel from one side of the small sun room to the other.

As an experiment, she tried out a DIY stained glass method (one that is removable if she makes a mistake or gets tired of the colors or the look).

Sorry, we don't have the specifics of her method, but we're curious if anyone else has done a similar project!

Totally random, but Lisa Bonet's character in High Fidelity has a similar set up in Chicago. I always thought it looked so cool.

I love this! Actually, I have been slowly collecting old windows from various places so I could do this myself, but it is taking forevor. Does anybody know where I could find an abundance of old windows/doors (besides in the alley)?

...the Bongo Room restaurant in Wicker Park does a similar thing with their menu displays in the front window. Little salvaged window frames are suspended behind the actual front windows, holding up their menu for passers-by to see. the extra bit of dimension it adds is very nice. it's possible to see them in this Planet99 photo.
