Look! Eye-Catching Authority

0420chipolice2.jpg Our local police station makes certain you'll notice it. Every time we walk by, we are struck by the sans serif brick-on-brick signage that results in a groovy radial effect. There's also some modern sculpture out front, but we just don't find it as interesting as the text.

Our friend Josh says the "font" (not really a font since the word is made out of bricks) is close to the Avant Garde Gothic style. If you find yourself on the northside, look for it: Chicago Police Department, 6464 N. Clark St., Rogers Park, 24th District Station. To really geek out, read more on the origins of Avant Garde Gothic font in this article from Step Inside Design.

Isn't there an equally interesting police station on Western (?) right south of Toys'R'Us?

Gotta hand it to Chicago's finest; they can't do much to stop the crime but they sure have some style...

I guess...?
