Look! Flower Pots as Window Boxes

0806_pots1.jpg

We passed by these flower pots this morning and had to share. Circle-shaped holders for clay pots are welded to the balcony railing and pots are nested down in to create a plant-filled border...

The balcony is located on a corner apartment and these blooming pots fancy it up beautifully. Repeating clay pots dancing around the rail are much more appealing and playful than typical long window boxes. This is definitely a retro-fit by the apartment's owner, as identical balconies on the same building have no pots or pot holders.

Very cool. Looks like a nicer version of something I do with coat hanger wire. One thing to consider, though, is that separate pots are going to need more frequent watering than a single big container. (It's probably less of a consideration in cooler climates than my toasty Texas.)

I wonder... when they water the pots, do they watch for people on the sidewalk below so as not to 'rain' on them?

I've never thought of living in Chicago (winters seem so cold..brrr) but i have to say that the Chicago AT posts make it look so appealing!

I love it, we do this a lot where I live. I took this pic featuring the same idea a few months ago and the owner said that people take pictures of his balcony all the time.

It is so refreshing to see something other than plastic containers in a wire box.

Those are beautiful! And I really like the privacy screen woven through the bars of the balcony.
