Look! Framed July 4th Poster

july47308.JPGSometimes the Midwest really does feel like the Midwest. Case in point: the day I snagged this Americana cardstock flyer. One frame later, it became vintage-y poster art.

Does it count as found if you take it off a wall?

It hung without irony in a dive bar in the small town where I grew up. A carnival actually had come to town. Finding this in its natural habitat was irresistible, and luckily, the date was July 5. The bartender looked the other way.

Today it and its random thumbprint hang jauntily in my shed.

Band posters, waste canvases, cool flyers - what throwaway nostalgia could you turn into something a little more permanent?

I don't have any throw-away nostalgia because I've already thrown it away. Cool idea though.

Which Ashland, Julie? I mean, in which state? Curious because I grew up close to an Ashland myself.

I love found ephemera--when I travel I try to collect (small) posters and such which catch my eye and speak to the place.

Ashland, Wisconsin! All the way up on Lake Superior.

I know there are 13 of them, I'm dying to get to Ashland, Oregon one of these days. It sounds a bit more enlightened than mine.
