Look!: Illuminated Floral Wall

2008-02-26-pinkberry.JPGOn a quick last minute trip to LA this past weekend, we finally got to try the bi-coastal frozen treat, Pinkberry, at the Abbot Kinney location. We thought it was absolutely delish, but our favorite part of the experience was this decorative architectural wall treatment...

2008-02-26-pink2.JPG

The shop design overall was good looking, very modern and clean, with bent wood accents, orange lucite chairs, tulip style tables and Alessi goodies on shelves as decor (and for sale, I'm assuming). This wall was the piece de resistance though, a glowing, crazily decorative installation of what must be faux flowers artfully arranged to form a three 2-d mural behind thick frosted panels.

More interesting than wallpaper, funky AND pretty, we really liked it.

It would be gorgeous behind a bed for a modern day update of the Brady parent's room....remember that leaf-motif acrylic wall screen thingy that they had?

All of LA on AT can be found here.
More info on Pinkberry (come to Chicago!) can be found here.

Is that a 3-Form panel maybe?

The Pinkberrys in New York have a posted "No photography" policy. Which I find INCREDIBLY pretentious.

art - i don't think it is - it has a similar look, but you could see that there was actual space behind the panel where the floral arrangement and lighting fit in- very cool!

I like their pebble-y floors.

P(2) it's the same way in LA. They're all protective of their secret forumula (yogurt and design I'm assuming).

well, it's also because Pinkberry can be a hotspot for celebs (at least it was last summer). they post the "no photography" allowed signs so that the small store doesn't become flooded with paparazzi.

They are hardcore about the formula though. The different ingredients come in unlabeled white containers so even the employees don't know how to make it.

"Pinkberry is people!!! It's PEOPLE!!!"

Sorry, the unlabeled container comment and secretive practices gave me a Soylent Green moment.

Yeah, um, I don't think paparazzi is the problem at the Chelsea store.

Although, if they produced a "No Photography, Please" t-shirt they same way Moss produced a "Do Not Touch" shirt, it just might convert me.

Pinkberry IS coming to Chicago according to a Crain's article last year. No specifics, but it should be during 2008.

That wall decor reminds me a lot of the back wall in the Dr's office in this seasons Nip/Tuck. That one looks like it uses Bamboo. Either way, super cool effect!

goodnightdean - Pinkberry has publicly stated that the "No Photography" is directly related to their competitor's attempts at copying their design. Google it...they're very open about the reasoning.

Nothing at all to do with paparazzi. At least not according to Pinkberry.

No, no, no! It reminds me of Victorian glass dome with dead animals and birds. Funereal.

Like cmv, the floor caught my attention. I ate in a restaurant a couple of weeks ago that had a pebble type floor that (being quite open about my weirdness) I absolutely loved. Hubby has nixed the idea of using it in the living room, and we just put new flooring in our master bath so...
