Look! Life Size Luxury Tax
...into a life size Monopoly board square, making a bit of public art and a comment on the always changing economics of neighborhoods at the same time. The panel is directly in front of a recent teardown, now a construction site - and instead of $75.00, the artist has added many "extra" zeros to the end of the figure.

You know, I appreciate the sentiment, but I don't know if the message is immediately apparent. To me, this is a comment about the unjustness of taxing the wealthy.
I guess if you think of where this "luxury tax" square lands on the monopoly board, in the Boardwalk/Park Place ritzy area, I can see how this argument could be made. Now he or she needs to find a low-rent area of town and paint a Baltic Ave square to really drive the message home.

OK, so the exact point the artist is trying to make--is it a comment on the gentrifying neighborhood or a protest on tax-gouging the rich?--is a little hazy. But then, so is the point of life. Who knows what it all means? In the meantime, though, I love this.

Brilliant! Just absolutely brilliant!
That should be duplicated in communities across the US. This includes my city, Sacramento, CA where homes that were reasonable in 99 @ 120k are now asking 600k while incomes are declining and young people are completely locked out of owning by speculators.

I would love something like this as a piece of art in my house. On Canvas hanging in my living room. I know this is totally missing the point and the fun would be slightly lost by the fact that it's not on a side walk. But I still want one. Maybe with my street name on it... hmmm.

They didn't get the typeface right. Maybe they were going for a hand-drawn look, but it just looks sloppy to me. Not really thought-out.
