About 70 miles north of Chicago stands the Racine Art Museum in downtown Racine. Back in May 2003, we were fortunate enough to be able to experience the first few days of the museum's open doors and were able to shoot and explore it, before the crowds came in...
The Racine Art Museum houses a vast collection of contemporary crafts including works made from ceramic, glass, fiber and wood. Our main attraction to the museum, however, is not what is in the inside -- which we really enjoy -- but rather the building itself. Designed by the firm of Brininstool + Lynch, the RAM has an interesting exterior skinned in translucent panels, but what really draws us to the building, however, are the beautiful lines throughout the space....

These are lovely lines! This may sound odd, but I love museum architecture. Louis I. Kahn's Kimbell Art Museum was one of the first public buildings I studied in college that I really got excited about. The Phoenix Art Museum and the ASU Art Museum are both amazing pieces of architecture, too, with the latter being designed by awesome Southwest architect, Antoine Predock.
