Look! Our New (Old) Asian Lamp

2-8-08lamp1.jpg

We love this lamp for lots of reasons, but particularly because it used to belong to my grandmother. Its new home next to our Case Study Day Bed really warms up our modern furniture. This is our favorite style: old meets new...

My grandmother had lots of hand-painted lamps which looked great in her traditional home, but we're excited to see them take on new life in a modern setting. It makes us want to go out and look for more antiques to add depth to our space.

Some places to look for antique lamps in Chicago: Craigslist, 1stdibs, and the vintage shopping guide on AT:Chicago.

I've got plans for two of those plywood tables next to my Case Study Day bed as well!

Where are the tables from?

Both the day bed and the side table (Offi Mag Table) are from Design Within Reach, but they're also available through other shops. Sometimes you can score them on Craigslist...Heather found her Case Study Day Bed online.

Anything else you planning for the room that will reference the lamp in any way? It looks a little lonely, style-wise. But it's lovely!

You're right, Patrick. We need to rearrange a few things and maybe bring in some artwork to make it fit together.

One brick red dupioni silk pillow would do it for me. I'm easy. Wait...

I love the interest that comes from combining old and new and especially appreciate the fact that you were able to use something of your gandmother's.
