We have a small but growing collection of old design books that we love to rummage in for inspiration. One of our favorites is a 1975 edition of Inside Today's Home by Ray and Sarah Faulkner (a contemporary version is still in print today!) The rooms in this book are so seventies, but it's fun to see what trends have come around again. Yellow was a hot color in 1975, as were flokati rugs and Marimekko fabrics. (Note the modern classic pieces of furniture that never go out of style.) Click below for more...

I want to cringe, but what the hell...I love this stuff. I guess being a little kid in the 70's one cannot help but have this style engraved in my brain.

there's a book called "The House Book" that i used to check out at the library when i was little. i was fascinated by the conversation pits and lofted beds and indoor swings. i found it at a used bookstore and bought it and whenever i get stuck i pull it out. it helps me think outside the "box"... why shouldn't i paint zig-zags on my wall or hang a hammock in my kitchen?
