Look!: The Old Rochester Waterworks Building

Among the old flour mills in downtown Rochester, NY that have been converted into bars, restaurants, and galleries, the old city waterworks building visually pops with its fantastically colored door. The building now houses Rochester's welcome center, history museum, and gallery showcasing local artists.

We were hoping to make it to George Eastman's house for a tour, but time has run out since the 100 degree temps sent us down to Stonybrook State Park's natural springs yesterday instead (stunning and a great swim). Stonybrook has welcomed nature seekers since it was built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s.

Today we take our short roadtrip back to home-sweet-home Chicago.

That's my hometown! Thanks for posting. The next time up there, I'll be sure to visit.

(Too bad you missed the Eastman House. It's a standard school-kid tour. I always loved it.)

Ooooh!!! I haven't been to Stonybrook since I was a little kid! I remember it as insanely beautiful with extremely cold water. I want to go back!
