We're wrapping up The Fall Cure this week and we have been searching for some small items to finish off the organization to our chaos. Click through the jump to see which room of the house we needed these wooden wonders for (hint - it's not the regular bookshelf!).
all of those little magazines you pick up at the grocery store, or even the ones you bring home from the bookstore or have subscriptions too. Most the time (if your house is anything like ours) the majority of them end up on our bookshelves filed away. But that's not always convenient for some impromptu-baking/cooking desires.
So to help out with the few stragglers that live in our kitchen, we thought a container of some sort to sit up on the bookshelf with the other cookbooks would be a great solution. To our pleasant surprise we found these wooden magazine holders at Michaels this past weekend.
They were $5.99 and ready to be painted, decoupaged, wood burned, chalkboarded or shellacked. Anyway you look at them, we think they are a great blank slate project!
I bought one of these because I found the idea of paying $10-$20 for an already designed magazine rack to be kind of ridiculous. I painted mine myself and it looks great, plus it keeps all of my magazines off my desk. :)

Michaels almost always, especially during the holidays, has a 40% off coupon in the newspaper or sometimes I get them in the mail amongst grocery store ads. Tonight I used one to purchase some xmas stuff and the cashier gave me one that printed out with my receipt to use on my next purchase!

I would unscrew the label holders and then do something cool with them.
I have been wanting to buy 5 of them to have in a row. What I want to do is blow up an old photo of my grandpa's family standing in front of their barn. It's about 75 years old and is very nostalgic. I'd get it enlarged at the local print shop and then adhere it to the tall part where the label holders were. I think I would paint the sides a barn red or maybe even a glossy lime green.

Using them in the kitchen is a great idea, Sarahrae! It would be a great place to stow all of my King Arthur Flour Baking Sheets and my monthly menus and their corresponding recipes! Another great idea, thanks!!!
(esp. the chalkboard paint!)

i'm a fan of clear acrylic stockholm files. but the kind that are open in front and closed at the top. and i like having the magazines spine out since i tend to have a hodge podge of issues grouped together and not so easily labelled on a tiny bit of paper.

Please, proof read...your writing has much more credibility when you do.
Great idea. I really like Erin's too and would love to see that.
