Look! Wooden Ruler Backsplash

backsplash.jpgThis weekend we came across the DIY backsplash of Kimbery Ann Swiderski, a resident of the Coffee Lofts in downtown Kansas City. We love the look of taking something rustic and applying it in small doses to make our spaces feel a bit cozier.
Click through the jump to see the backsplash in it's natural habitat... the kitchen.

Taking something that normally would have been discarded and giving it a new purpose always gives a bit unexpected warmth to a space!

The homeowner also has a few more photos of her loft posted up here, if curiosity has the better of you.

Wow! Cool idea, don't think I would do it (not my style really), but it works. Looks like wood grain from far away

Looks nice, but it must be a nightmare to clean.

This reminded of the yardstick chair from a couple of years ago that I yearned for: http://www.zeekgallery.com/dynamic/artwork_display.asp?ArtworkID=745

this resonates because I sew and tend to accumulate yardsticks wherever I go.

Wow! Like the ruler back splash and LOVE this loft!! brilliant ceiling treatment in the bathroom.

I would totally buy this place if it weren't on the ground floor... and in Kansas City. Heck of a commute to Chicago! :P

If you like the look but aren't too keen on the cleaning aspect, you could always set them into epoxy or resine so that it was encased and with a nice shiny flat easy to clean surface finish. :)

I don't think I would choose the rulers as a splash back but I think it would make a great piece to hang on the wall, perhaps behind a couch? Inspiring!

I'm with Cassis -- is this really a functional backsplash, i.e. a waterproof, easy-to-clean wall protector?
