I really like it!

I am so torn between the bold and colorful spaces and the calm and neutral ones that I always see.

Anyway, I definitely agree with rvalexa- the great pieces really lend a sophisticated edge to this home and it definitely stays far from "dorm room" because of it.

I absolutely love this! My favorite is the bedroom.
When I first moved into my apartment, I seriously considered repainting the bold walls in my studio to a more neutral color, but once I started unpacking my art/furniture/plants in contrasting colors, I realized that the color made a great backdrop!

Eye-popping and well-done. Not for me, tho. I prefer a more subtle use of color. Could be a generational thing!

Empty nesters like me and the Hubs are too old and tired to have to repaint all the walls if the home needed to be put on the market.

I think it does look a little circus, though high
quality and tasteful circus, if that makes sense.
My tendency is to use more traditional art with bright walls, or contemporary art in more traditional spaces.
I like the contrast. I can understand the love some people feel for these rooms--they are done with care and love and it shows. But it's too much for me!

Nothing circus-like about this place; I find it quite consistent.
I'm really inspired by the bold graphic art which pulls this home together.

I love bright colors and contrast as much as anyone...

...but so many choices here, seem so random. Although a few things click together, they're followed by something else that doesn't make a connection to anything else in these rooms.

Ie: The curtains in the dining area are completely out of place - If they were replaced with the orange ones from the bedroom, that room would make much more sense - then that orange could be repeated in the Living Room curtains, and the two rooms would be drawn together as well as connect the Orange wall-display from the corner above the sofa with the rest of the room as well as the artwork and vases in the dining area.

And for the bedroom, I'd have chosen curtains that were white & lime green to pick up the colors of the bedcovering and contrast w/ the wall color - the orange seems out of place in that room. (Or bring in those orange vases from the dining area)

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Just as some background info.... the house is not done/completely tweaked/polished yet, we bought it & moved in on April 2nd. So we've only been here about a month & a half.

Kevoncubine - the piece in the bedroom is Iso Satakieli, it's a fabric panel by Marimekko and available here.

Lady Design - most of the art is work that I've done. The painting over the lefthand side of the sofa is a gift from my dear friend Erin Adams. She is also an amazing artist.

Nora_mc, the bedroom paint color is Blue Spa by Benjamin Moore. Fantastic color!

Laura, that would be my 2-year-old partner in crime. He was trying to get in the shot. ;) He also loves to climb anything and everything. I'd had the ladder out to put up the last of the hexagon decals.

Aychihuahua and Baba Yaga.... lots of our friends & family love how it looks but are happy to go back to their own neutral/more calm homes. I understand the amount of color isn't for everyone. I sometimes look at homes with lots of white, natural materials, and soothing colors and think "oh how peaceful that would be." But then I think about the times I've tried more neutral palettes in my previous flat - I had to repaint it within a couple of months because it just wasn't me. So it's one of those "to each their own" type things, and I can appreciate your point of view. :)

And Bepsf, I can see where you see the disconnect but in my mind it all makes perfect sense, whereas your suggestions seem too matchy-matchy to me. I'd rather fill the space with pieces I love than something that doesn't necessarily speak to me but the shade of orange perfectly matches something else or stick to mundane interior design "rules" about the number of colors to use in a space. Which is why I didn't go to interior design school - I prefer to decorate in a gutsy no apologies manner. Which isn't to say I can't appreciate it in someone else's home - but to me it's boring. Thank you for your input, though!

I love the peacock rug in the dining room - where did she get it?

I love the kitchen/dining room. I have that EXACT dinette set. And, when we finally get a place (we're shopping now), I wanted to paint the kitchen/dining room a bright citrus green, similar to this! I'm so glad it looks so wonderful! I feel like my idea's been validated!

I love it! So fun and inspiring. We went crazy with color in our first house but this house already had really nice neutrals in place when we moved in, so we've been less daring. Seeing your house really reminded me of how fun a vibrant environment is.

Baileyb, you shouldn't feel boring because you prefer more neutral colors in your home. As long as you're happy with it, comfortable in your surroundings, and consider what you've put into it an expression of yourself, there's not really any right or wrong way to go about decorating. It doesn't mean you can't appreciate what someone else has done even if you can't imagine doing it in your own place. But thank you for the compliment!

And Agentlemonade, thank you! I adore the 1960s & 70s style. :) The bedspread is a vintage piece from that era that I happened upon on Etsy and had to snatch up. The design was so me.

I think the space is too personal to be for everyone, which is the point, and why I like it so much. Plus, dang man, we've got 1500 names for beige now, and I've had enough. Viva color!

I find it funny that people say this is too much color for them. To each his own, I guess. I think it's actually pretty restrained. The eating area has the white wainscoting to break it up; the living room has a huge white sectional and rug. I have seen way more "colorful" homes featured on AT--way more saturated colors, way less simplicity of furnishings, and more visual clutter. I think this is really inspired and I bet when you're in the house the rooms flow perfectly together. In fact, my only regret in reading this post is that there aren't more pictures.

this is great. i think (almost) anyone can pull off a neutral color scheme. this home just screams happy to me!

Beautiful place! May I ask where you got the bedspread from?

I love the green with the yellow and orange sort of trippy art work. I'm just to the point of adding art in my room and I can really see how art can set the tone.

I know the bedspread was bought on Etsy but does anyone know where I could get something similar? I have been spending all weekend looking for something close to it but havent come close. I searched for "vintage floral bedding" and other variations but have no clue what type of flowers are on the bedspread. It's so unique and I would love to find something similar to it.

Fondo & LadyDesign, the art in the dining room is a piece that I sketched/colored and had printed onto fabric. I am thinking about selling it through my Etsy shop eventually.

The bedspread is from Etsy. ndxdmb - I dunno where you would find anything exactly like it. I'm going to send you a message with some similar links. The flowers are outlines of chrysanthemums and daisies, I do believe. That's what makes it so cool to me - the thin outline/illustrative quality.
