Chilewich Woodgrain Plynyl at NeoCon

2007-06-27-plynyl.jpg

2007-06-27-woodgrain.JPGSo good in person. The new woodgrain plynyl from Chilewich is most definitely not cheesy.

When we first read about the new plynyl, the old knotty wood Contact paper is what came to mind (which we do kinda love on its own merits, btw), but when we saw the entire booth done up at NeoCon we realized this is faux-woodsy in a whole new way.

2007-06-27-plynylfloor.JPGIt may have something to do with the linear ridges that run across the material - the pattern has depth. While retaining the coolness factor of obvious faux, it still manages to feel like a quality material.

The booth was completely covered. The walls were done in long, continuous stripes. It was reminiscent of elegant moire silk wallcoverings just as much as rec room paneling - an interesting effect.

The floor was done parquet style which enhanced the woodgrain pattern and looked fantastic.

It was also shown as upholstery - we have to say we liked it in each of the applications. If you like faux bois this new plynl pattern is something to keep in mind - it will be available July 2007.

With a name like plynl, I suppose this faux wood is actually made of vinyl...which is one of the worst products in existence when it comes to environmental pollution, fire safety (if for whatever they catch on fire, they emit a toxic smoke/vapor that will kill you almost instantly, and if you survive chances are you'll get cancer), and workers rights in the production and disposal phases of the product. Just saying...I mean, technically, it's just as dangerous to have vinyl records...
