Maxwell and I are just back from a spectacularly bloggy couple of days spent at the first-ever Alt Summit, a design bloggers conference held in Salt Lake City. It was an opportunity for bloggers from all across the country to get together, talk shop, share inspiration and, best of all, have a really good time finally meeting face to face.
The keynote panel (shown above the jump) was moderated by Heather Armstrong of Dooce (who honestly had the entire conference hall howling with her bathroom reno slideshow). Maxwell, Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge and Jean Aw of Not Cot discussed the current focus on and growing interest in design.
The "How to Find Great Design Sites" Panel. Left to right: Allison Czarnecki, Nicole Balch, Jamie Derringer and Karey Mackin
The rest of the panels were organized into three tracks of subject matter - design theory, form & function and hands on. Opinions and tips on dealing with everything from privacy to ads to comments and email etiquette were presented by some of the most inspired design bloggers working today.
Easily, one of the greatest takeaways from the weekend was discovering (usually rediscovering!) the speaker's own blogs. I pulled together this list featuring the blogger panelists along with their links - enjoy and be sure to bookmark your (new) favorites!

Considering Dooce made her name blogging about her kids and her post-partum health, I was surprised at the announcement of her deal with HGTV. She's great, but I wouldn't have picked her as the design blogger to make the jump to cable tv.

You were one of the main reasons I went to the conference, and you didn't disappoint - your talk was inspiring, and I hope to see you at next years conference.

Who's this Maxwell person? : )

The funniest part of this to me is that Heather Armstrong once linked to something here on AT, which is what got me reading this blog. :) I've been hooked ever since!

I love Dooce but never thought of her as a design blog...they do have good taste! And she (and Jon?) seem to incorporate it effortlessly - cool!

Yeah--Dooce doesn't seem like a design blogger to me, either. Odd.

So, I went to Dooce's blog to see what her style is, and to hopefully get some inspiration. Because the person who is putting on a design summit, who was recently hired as the face of design blogging by HGTV, would have a prominent design section on her blog, right? Right?
Wrong. I couldn't find anything about design. The closest I could find was the daily style section, which was more about cool products than interiors. Style, yes. Design--not so much.
Am I missing something? Is this an exclusive club, where only those in the know can find anything on her blog about (non-product) design?
