apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

August Is...

080706niagara-falls.jpg...a time for us to rejuvenate, enjoy what remains of summer, and spend as much time out of our apartments as possible! I just returned from a roadtrip east, through Canada, Niagara Falls, and ending up in Rochester, NY to visit family. In a couple weeks I'll be heading to a wedding in Yellow Springs, Ohio (never heard of it before. Has anyone been?). And Janel has me envious with upcoming plans for Hawaii at the end of the month.

We want to know where August is taking you, or where the summer has taken you so far:

In other news, we were excited to announce our Links Drive last week, in which we are inviting all home and design blogs to exchange links with us (therefore raising web rankings all around...both yours and ours!). Read more details here.

Yellow Springs is the home of Antioch college. Instead of 4 years of classes, students take classes some semesters and work in their field other semesters. My father & sister went there. I was there in the late 70's visiting my sister and all I remember was the tornado warning our first evening there - very exciting for an east coast girl like myself.

Yellow Springs is an interesting community with an artistic/hippie-ish vibe and at least one restauarant that is frequently recommended by the food critic of the Columbus Dispatch. (Yellow Springs is about an hour from Columbus.) I highly recommend a drive to Young's Dairy just a few miles away for good, fresh ice cream right on the the dairy farm.

Madison and Spring Green; some Frank Lloyd Wright sight-seeing, the Memorial Union Terrace, and a few breweries for good measure.

Moving north to Ottawa, actually. Apparently there are cities even more northernly than Chicago!

South Africa later this week. Other than a safari (yay) I'll be in Cape Town for most of the trip. Any suggestions of special things to check out (especially cool and unique things to bring home for me or as gifts)?

I'm staying put in Chicago, but having several visitors come. Although it would be nice to take a daytrip or two to Western Michigan. Enjoy the beach and check out some antique stores.

Staying put; I just moved to Chicago so I don't feel the need to escape yet. :D
