We're stealing a great idea from The Kitchen, and hope that we can find an organization here in Chicago to donate used corks. For a couple of years, we've been donating corks to a friend of a friend who creates "cork art" (I'm not exactly sure what kind of art, but I seem to recall hearing about an Elvis pin...).
She's on break from corking now, so we're wondering if any AT: Chicago readers would be interested in joining us in both saving corks and figuring out a place to donate them.
Anyone know of a group that makes cork floors, ceiling tiles, or anything else? Let us know!

Heather,
I saw at True Nature Foods (http://www.truenaturefoods.com/) that they are collecting corks to donate to I believe the park district. I think the sign said that they grind up the corks and use them for planting purposes. I'll have to take another look when I pop in there this weekend.
That might be a good place to donate.

thanks for the info! i haven't done any research on other places yet myself, but the park district is a really great idea. for those of you who said you'd be interested in donating, look for another post soon with a plan of action.
thanks to everyone for drinking up your wine!
