Happy Birthday: Aalto's Savoy Vase

2006-05-05-fish.jpg
The iconic and gorgeous Savoy Vase is having its 70th birthday. Designed in 1936 by Alvar Aalto it has been produced continously for seven decades by Iittala, based in Finland.

A representative of Iittala has said, "I don't think Aalto would have designed such a vase if he'd known more about how to make it.".

So many good things in life seem to come about that way. Here are a few original design collages for the Savoy:

The Aalto vase will definitely be a clasic forever, but I've never been a fan of the colored ones.

I own an amber one which I like.

And am recently really liking the white ones, and just found a place that sells white ones with colored interiors...

The blue one reminds me of a swimming pool, of which I am currently obsessed...
