Happy Canada Day: A Roundup of Great Canadian Homes

We've been enjoying the content coming in from the Apartment Therapy readers in Canada - over the years, we've discovered wonderful spaces and great resources from this design-loving community. To help celebrate Canada Day, we've gathered the links to five favorite homes and have a survey especially for our Canadian readers below the jump:

Homes shown above, left to right:

2. Kim's One Room at a Time
3. Lisa & Alex's Craftsman Loft
4. dp2r's Organized Abode

Love #5. I'm not Canadian, but I am addicted to Sarah Richardson's design shows on FLN (she's from Toronto, I think). She does some beautiful work, her fabric choices are a knockout, and her furniture is lovely, but her lighting design is amazing. It's forcing me to examine my own home lighting, which, I realize, stinks.

"NANAVUT"? Come on, AT. It's 'Nunavut'.

Love #1 with chairs all over. Great idea, though I wouldn't do it in my own place, it certainly makes a statement and have people talking.

Btw, it's not Nanavut but Nunavut. ;)

A chair mounted over the fireplace and two chairs blocking the opening?

Oh my GOD I love that rug in the first photo! I gotta have it. It's probably a really old, expensive Navajo or something.

clampers -- Navajo rugs are still being made using traditional patterns, and Mexico produces many affordable knock-offs. I think the one in the picture is modern -- traditional antique Navajo rugs don't have fringes. So any reputable rug dealer ought to be able to help you.

I don't get the 2 chairs directly in front of the fireplace in the first picture. It looks like a very odd setup to me.

Thank you Lisa of Montreal! I should check that out. My mom has a couple Navajo rugs that are just totally gorgeous but I wouldn't dare ask her for them because I would probably spill red wine as soon as I laid it on the floor. A knock-off would be perfect for my slippery fingers. ;)

Be sure to check out Kim's recent bedroom reno, too: I could sit and look at her house for hours on end!

Happy Canada Day, one and all.

If you are polling the Canadians in aid of potentially adding a Canadian AT site... please, please, please represent both East & West. Because of climate and geography our country is beautifully, varied stylistically.

If I'm reading way too deep into this poll and you are not thinking of adding a Canadian AT site, please, please, please think about it...

Happy Canada Day!

Thanks for the nod Rouquinne. Stylenorth may not be AT Canada but we try: http://stylenorth.ca/blog/

Can't answer the poll, for whatever reason, which is a pain, because I can guarantee that there aren't many of us from my part of the country (not if what's on the site is any representation of 'Canada', that is)...

Nonetheless, happy 142nd, Canada - and a great day it was!

I'm guessing the fireplace in the first photo doesn't work, and as a result makes less of a focal point than one that often had a roaring fire in it. I have lived in places like that before, and it's awkward. Either you make the gaping hole a visual focal point, or you act like it's not there. It doesn't bother me in this shot, though, because the rest of the space is really well done.

That's so nice of you to think of us Canadians. Thanks!

And I would fully support an AT Canadiana, but I agree - there'd have to be an east and west version please.

I think there should be two AT Canadias as well.

All my opinions on Canadian decor were formed by 'Kids in the Hall' and 'Strange Brew'.

This would be groundbreaking for any shelter site.

Theory on photo #1

They aren't using the fireplace (it's summer up there), so the traffic pattern is drawn through the center of the room. In Winter the chairs would be brought forward and the pattern would be drawn towards the fireplace.

I think it's clever.

I voted to represent Gander. Though I'm not Canadian.

Americans know about as much about Canada as straights know about gays. Americans show up with skis at the border in July....

Wouldn't there need to be an Appartement Thérapie as well?
