This time last year it was our daily click to check ATNY and ATLA for the latest and greatest color contest entries.
For today's blog holiday (we'll be back tomorrow...stay tuned) we decided to revisit one of our favorite entries from the 2005 contest to tide you all over until we continue posting this years entries.

Has he ever entered a house tour? I'd love to see his entire home.
Lady J:
Not yet! I'd love to see a house tour too.
Since the contest Jon has joined Apartment Therapy as one of the LA editors. He also has two other blogs, happy mundane and its knot wood, both clickable from our sidebar to the right.
Thanks for (re)posting my entry from last year- If for nothing else, I am an example of how entering this contest can change your life! Seriously, although I didn't take first (I'm not bitter... really...) I did make out with a sweet second place prize and best of all, it introduced me to the world of blogging, and consequently I was invited to be a part of this great AT family! So I encourage EVERYONE to enter! Who knows what could happen! As for a house tour, you can get a few sneak peaks of my house at my personal flickr page on happymundane (link to the right)
Jon,
Your entry from last year still remains one of my all-time favorites on AT. It's the inspiration for my one-room remedy that I hope to do soon. Thank you for sharing this with us. I look forward to seeing more of your place.
Love the little cubes you have used as tables...especially love how you can use them to house a giant stack of magazines....something i have WAY too many of....where did you find these?
veronica, I got the cubes from Target a few years ago... I don't know where you can find another rounded corner one now, but they do have square cornered ones, used for normal stacking shelving...
Deepa, thanks again for the nice comment!
Is that a screen or bamboo blinds? I've been looking on line for tortoise shell bamboo blinds, but the dimensions of my window are making the cost outrageous. Any recommendations?
hi stacy- if you're referring to the little snip of pattern to the right of the above image, that's actually a bamboo curtain, that i purchased at Urban Outfitters. If you're looking for Tortise shell blinds, one of the cheapest i've found is at Home Depot... but the width of your windows may affect that cost... anyone else have any other suggestions?
Actually I was referring to the second image - behind the lamp. But I'll check Home Depot. I typically take the most convoluted and difficult route to finding items, only to wind up at the most obvious and most convenient source much, much later (i.e., my online search of dozens of sites versus simply trying Home Depot or Lowe's). Thanks for the info, Jon!
Agreed! This was one of my favorite rooms from last year's contest too. Jon, you SHOULD do a house tour.
stacy- oh- sorry, yes, the things behind the lamp are bamboo matchstick shades. i got them at my local japanese grocery store. They may also have been intended as floor mats, but i think they were supposed to be blinds. They didn't come with any hardware, so I wasn't sure. In any case, they were easy to cut to the desired width (i just used some tape and an electric saw) I also ended up using them in the guest bathroom that is connected to this room. They added instant texture, without resorting to wallpaper... good luck with your search!
enriqure- you are always welcome to tour my house. next time you're in the OC, let me know...
