Dear apartment dwellers: It's time to stop living with dust bunnies, spiderwebs, crumby floors, long hairs tangled in rugs, in bathrooms, in lives.
We are here to help you scrub down, untangle and lighten the load. Also, if you'd like to jump into Apartment Therapy's 8 Step Home Cure now, click here and get the book.
And now, a story...
Once upon a time, Heather let her cleaning duties go by the wayside. On one fated day (the 25th of April, 2006, to be exact), she walked out of her office and into her bedroom only to see a most disturbing sight: a large insect caught in a giant dust bunny, going nowhere.
The little guy was trying to get away, run forward, walk back, anything. But it was too late. The dust bunny had taken hold. Seeing this, Heather stared in sick humor, awe and disgust. And she realized that with spring, we can expect the occassional creature in our home, but there's just no need for dust bunnies on the unwanted guest list.
All month, Janel and I will be looking for tips on great products, how to make cleaning fun, ways to structure it into our lives, and any other AT-reader insight out there. Do not fear; we are all in this together.
I hired a cleaning person about a year ago before my family descended upon me right before my wedding. It was the best money I have ever spent and I've been meaning to do it again. I used Manic Maids and they were fine, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for other cleaning services.
The person who helps me is wonderful and is looking for some new clients because several of her regulars have moved out of the city.
If you email me, I'll give you her #.
I swear I will hire someone when I get a 'real' job (post grad school) - but for now, I am cleaning every week, because a dog, a cat and two grad students = messes.
The "My toe" cartoon just struck me as ridiculously funny. Can you tell me who drew it?
dear alinia:
ridiculously funny, i agree. it's by sam brown of "exploding dog":
http://www.explodingdog.com/
on his q&a page, sam says: "people suggest titles and i do drawings from some of them, then post them on this site. if some one likes the picture i drew, they email it to their friends and say "hey, look at this funny picture."
this site could be thought of as a long term semi-collaborative art project. nobody pays for anything. and when i draw a picture using someone's title it is added to the front page for anyone who is interested to look at."
he sells some prints and t-shirts too...
