We're thankful. We really like Thanksgiving. A holiday that is about choosing good food at the market, preparing it for family and friends, some thinking about what you are thankful for and sitting around a candle-lit table for a long leisurely meal is just so good.
Add in parades (we go down to State Street and freeze every year), chocolate, board games, champagne (for basting and sipping) and maybe an old movie and it simply works out to a good time.
Thanksgiving naturally brings about reflection on community - the network of family and friends, co-workers and neighbors that keep us all afloat. A visit to the Chicago Food Depository site helps to spread the thankfulness around a bit by allowing you to donate food, funds or time this holiday.
If your plans are still up in the air, both Gapers Block and
Chicagoist have good guides to some local options.
Finally, below is a quick survey to find out what we're all up to on Thursday.
Feel free to add in the details in the comments...how many people are you cooking for...what are you bringing along to your friends place... how far are you travelling...what are you doing instead of the "usual"?

After years of avoiding the headaches of Thanksgiving-related travel, I am once again headed to O'Hare on Wednesday. My boyfriend and I are going to spend a long weekend in Paris.
Technically, it's a mileage run (I need 5000 miles to maintain my status on American Airlines) but I am thrilled with the prospect of doing something "completely un-big-meal related". I look forward to spending time with my BF and wandering the streets (and eating, of course!). I could even see this becoming a little tradition!
As far as stressing out over a big meal, I look forward to the New Year's Eve dinner Luigi and I are planning next month.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
i'm a guest at a friends. very excited not to have to do a turkey! but i am taking some Wild Rice and Goat Cheese Stuffing and some individual Pumpkin Creme Brulees. my newly favorite thanksgiving traditions! YUM!
I'll be decorating the ole faux Christmas tree while listening to Boney M sing holiday tunes like "Jingle Bell Rock"! Love this weekend!
this is off topic, but i just checked out the site meter for the first time . . . someone from halliburton.com was checking out the site?
holy creepiness.
How do you check the site meter?
