1784 - Benjamin Franklin comes up with the idea of daylight-saving time when he writes that Parisians could save thousands of francs a year by waking up earlier during the summer because it would prevent them from having to buy so many candles to light the evening hours.
So thanks to him, we'll all be adjusting our clocks and sleeping habits just a bit this weekend...

Is this good for Canada too? Seems early to me.

Damn. I hate losing that hour of sleep. :(

I'm pretty sure it's just for the US- I know we have a 3 week overlap with Europe. I've always loved that congress can just decide when to have DST- it's like they can CONTROL TIME.
It sucks to lose that hour, but think of how great it will be next week to have it light for so long!

Most of Canada changes at the same time as US. Couldn't be more complicated... Check countries here:

As a dog owner I'm looking forward to the added hour of light after work. It has been a long dark winter and I can't wait to see my pup and her pals running around again in the sunlight.

That was Benjamin Franklin! Thanks for the historical tidbit. By the way daylight savings in France is March 30th. We'll get to keep our hour just a little bit longer. But in the end the French still get up later and go to bed later than Americans anyway.
