....from the president of FLOR, Greg Colando.
The new shop functions as a design studio or workshop as much as a retail location. There are samples of every FLOR tile in production, so you can see, feel and combine textures, colors and patterns to your hearts content. There is plenty of floor space to show off the product and an area has been designated just for building sample FLOR "rugs" so customers can experience their design vision firsthand and make adjustments while working with the FLOR staff.
A "design library" has been set up with various fabrics and wallcoverings to allow customers to see how the FLOR samples will work with products similar to those they may already have at home. FLOR photos from over the years will also be on hand as further inspiration.
We think the move to a in-person retail experience is a smart one. We've long been fans of the product, having seen it in person in other shops and in friends homes - the quality really comes across when you can experience the tiles firsthand. The new shop should make the FLOR shopping experience a breeze for Chicago customers.
Opening day is Friday, June 19 at 9am. It's located at 1873 North Clybourn (right next to Jayson Home & Garden).
Store Hours are as follows:
M & TH: 9-8
T, W, F: 9-6

How awesome!
It also happens to be the same day I received my first FLOR order ever! I have been wanting to get some for a long time.

I really tried to get on this bandwagon as they are lovely. I have used them in multiple projects however, with mostly horrible results. The FLOR tiles are fine and stay seamless when running wall-to-wall. Area rugs or runners SEPARATE and look trashy and 'buck-toothy' within a few months as the adhesive squares FLOR provides are not adequate to keep the tiles together leaving gaps EVERYWHERE. My clients are forced to replace these with actual RUGS as the only other solution is to reapply new adhesive squares constantly. If you are considering FLOR HEED MY WARNING!

kcowan,
Duct tape is the answer. If you can spring for the Gorilla brand duct tape, even better. I've never tried the adhesive squares (I just use leftover samples from work and they don't come with the dots) but duct tape will hold up for years, even with evil cats trying as hard as they can to rip it all apart.

It's great that they have this design studio/workshop but I'd like to advise the president if I may, to turn up the juice and get their product in with a Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, the big box stores if they'd like to really see the gains. Wouldn't a little "Flor" section at ALL those stores be great for more people to be able to SEE first-hand and enjoy the product? Especially with the ease of install, recycling of tiles, and how eco friendly they are, not to mention good looking.
