CoolTiles

20080131tile20.jpgIf a tiling project is next on your list, check out CoolTiles before you do a thing. Their webstore is a virtual warehouse of tile in glass, stone, metal, and even blended medium, like a combo marble/stainless steel mosaic. They also carry a large selection of hardware, such as drawer pulls and hooks. Some of the more decorative items are a little hokey (seashell pulls, grapes-on-the-vine tiles, etc) but keep looking and you'll find some hidden gems.

Jump down for a price summary and a gallery of bathroom inspiration.

20080131tile24.jpgWe didn't compile a full CoolTiles price list (because that would have taken forever) but we did notice that everything is marked as on sale. Glass tiles range from $6 - $22 per sq ft. This Crystile Brick Fiesta Blend (on left) is on sale for $19.39/sq ft. The marble tiles also seemed fairly priced, with this pretty 1" Ming Green Marble Mosaic Tile (center) costing $16.91 per sq. ft. The metal tiles jump up a bit (averaging about $24/sq ft) and the fancier hardware seems somewhat steep. But how can you really put a price on T-Shirt Cabinet Knobs ($10.35 each).

20080131tile21.jpgIf you're only entertaining the idea of tiling, browsing through the collections on CoolTiles is a great way to track tile trends and to see which colors and patterns jump out to you. They also have a photo gallery, making it easy to see how the swatches translate into a finished job. Many of the close-up images aren't very good (blurry or shot at weird angles) but you can rest easy because CoolTiles does accommodate sample orders.

And then after you check out this site for ideas go to Tile Outlet on Fullerton and buy tile for a fraction of the cost. Seriously don't be put-off by the shabby displays -they have a great selection and amazing prices. They saved my dual bathroom rehab by providing affordable yet styish tiles (and no I don't work there).

I'll 2nd That Emotion, on TILE OUTLET on Fullerton.

Ignore the sales staff- pay no mind to the harsh, garish glare from too much flourescent light.....just relish in the $2.00 a ft2 prices. Honey Onyx- for $6.50 a ft2.
Come-on-down.
Ya gotta go often- since what they sell are overstocks & "deals" -whatcha see one week- may be ALL GONE the next.
But- whoda-thunk- Tile Outlet would be selling glass mosaic tiles?
And "sassy" ones at that?!!

Back in the day- when I usta to do a LOT of broken tile mosaics for bars, Shops,HairSalons, and my own Table Tops _ TILE OUTLET was my "go-to" source!!!
