Can someone help me choose a color.
I need to paint the lower half of a wall which runs the entire length of my loft.
An old image can be seen here:

I'm thinking of something green (moss-like) or maybe an eggplant like color.

Suggestions??? Please!

I know a lot of people have posted about finding a reasonably-priced upholsterer for all of those Craigslist finds...

Anyway, I haven't used them personally, but I got a flyer for a place called Lakeview Upholstery, 773-736-3522, (www.lakeviewupholstery.com).

The prices seem pretty decent - sofas start at $185, chairs at $115.00 - plus the cost of fabric.

According to the flyer, they do free in-home estimates and they will pick up and deliver the furniture in 5-6 days.

I think a moss green would definitely be pretty, as would a burnt orange color

Burnt orange sounds interesting. I will check it out!

Help. I have some items I want to buy from Ikea but don't want to haul it home.

Is there a service that provides this type of delivery?

I'm in a Chicago suburb and would be buying from the Bolingbrook Ikea.

Thanks.

You can arrange for delivery of stuff to your house at the Ikea itself. It was a pretty reasonable charge, we thought, though there weren't a lot of options for when it was delievered, if I remember right.

Hey SeanG---

Saw that AT Chi said "hello," and took their bait.

Really like your place! Amazing architecture and also what you've done with it.

If you go with a moss, I'd suggest going on the grayer side...

Check out:

Good luck!

lala: Thank you very much! I'm a fan of the Urban Living. I think I'll order a sample and do a bit of testing.

Cheers!

has anyone had their steam radiators sandblasted in chicago? wondering if there's a recommendation for a good service, and a sense of the price/time/hassle/satisfaction.
thanks!

How fun to get the "Hello to...Curtis..." especially since I've been on AT so long, it's not funny. Maybe I don't visit The Chicago part that often? Someday maybe I'll actually get a chance/excuse to visit the actual city!

hi curtis - of course, i know you are not a new reader, just felt like saying hello!

That's sweet! I just wondered if it were some accidentally glitched welcome-bot or what!

Meanwhile, congratulations on turning 2 years old, because it truly seems like -- not yesterday -- 5 minutes ago that the branching off into different cities started, and it's very interesting how they've developed to each have their own character.

Sean,
I really like the idea of a more gray moss green for that half wall. Your place looks fantastic!

thanks for the shoutout!

SeanG, I think you should go with a darker color to offset the light bricks. Maybe a slate/charcoal grey? It looks like the dividing line between the bricks and the wall is right at eye level when sitting so that sort of contrast would be interesting.

I'm from DC, and I love the Chicago section best! Can't wait until we get our own section.

hello back at you! :)

this weekend i hope hope hope to get my butt in gear and tear apart my son's bedroom. its on the top floor of our skinny house and used to be a tiny servants kitchen (we think) but really its the size of a closet... anyhow, we moved here last summer and his room is one of the last to be done, so i've got to get it started. first i have to take the "before" pics because it will hopefully be a dramatic change.

else, i need to finish the curtains for kid #2's bedroom.

and make a lemon tart. with extra lemon.

happy weekend!

SeanG -- love your place!

As for the colour, with your white furniture and the white of the windows, I am tempted to go quite dark on that wall -- either a dark brown that harmonizes with the browns in the brick (i.e., is just a few shades darker than what is in the bricks, but the same tone) or grey to coordinate with the grout. I think it would be stunning. The colours on that Ralpj Lauren loft colors card offer lots of options.

I don't know if anyone heads up to Madison much, but there is an amazing sale going on now for a variety of chairs. It's at Atomic Interiors, and it goes until May 11th. I'm excited to go tomorrow and see if I can find anything!

(Their address is 1021 S. Park St.)

SD913, wallpaper usually goes above a chair rail because the wall below it traditionally has wood paneling.

honeyfresh, big dane, monika1: Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into the color of the grout but as far as I can tell its not very dark. Its a bit sand colored - slightly darker than the bricks. But then again, may its not :)

Thanks for the compliments and the suggestions. The Ralph Lauren colors are quite nice!!

Hit the KBIS show at McCormick place if you can.

I feel like my life is that much more complete now that I shook Martin Yan's hand.

Saw Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto) cook two chickens in a Turbochef in 12 minutes.

Saw a completely concealable kitchen from Lube (Italy). It's a wood veneered kitchen island whose motorized suraface rolls away to reveal a cooker and sink.

Free lambchops and wine at Fisher Paykel. Free beer from the mini Heineken kegerator http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/home_journal_news/4253134.html
An enclosed steam/shower with stereo speakers and television from Korea ($3500.00)
Crazy interpretive modern dance from Kohler.
A country singing/game show host woman in towel from a caulking company.

Electrolux seemed liked the place to be.
